10. The Lame

10. December 2014

Now a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, “Look at us!” So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them.

Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong. He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God. All the people saw him walking and praising God, (Acts 3, 2 – 9 NIV)

While Jesus had been on the Earth he healed may sick who physicians hat not been able to heal. Now, some time later, Peter and John walked around telling people about Jesus.

What do you think would have been more important to the lame man, that the two give him a large sum of money or that they healed him?

Many people say that health is the highest treasure that they have. I think they are right. When you are healthy you may work and earn money. At times it is not that simple, I am aware of this. But in any case health is something very important.

But how had it been possible that Peter and John healed this lame man?

“In the name of Jesus Christ.....,” they said. So it had been Jesus who healed the man, and Peter and John just functioned.

Jesus – isn't that the one who really has got a lot to do with Advent Season and whose arrival we are waiting for?
